What is direct primary care?
Direct primary care (DPC) is primary care provided at an affordable and predictable monthly price without billing insurance.
This allows:
This allows:
- Longer appointment times (30-60 minutes or more!)
- Unlimited visits at no additional cost
- 24/7 access to your doctor by phone or email
What services are covered by the membership?
Do you accept my insurance?
We do not accept any insurance. Instead, our services are covered by an affordable monthly membership, and HSA funds can be used to cover membership costs.
Insurance can still be used to pay for medications, imaging, and labs, and for services outside the scope of our clinic, including specialist referrals and hospital services.

If I am a member, do I need health insurance?
We do not require our patients to keep health insurance, but we strongly recommend carrying insurance to cover hospital, specialist, and medication expenses.
Who can be a patient?
Dr. Sherman sees all ages from newborn infants to seniors. He also provides non-obstetric women’s health services.
Do you see children as patients?
Yes! Dr. Sherman is trained in family medicine and specializes in seeing patients of all ages.
Does the whole family need to sign up?
We love seeing whole families, but are happy to provide services to any member of a family regardless of whether the rest of the family signs up.
Can I see Dr. Sherman as my primary care doctor but see a gynecologist for women’s health services?
Yes! Dr. Sherman is comfortable providing women’s health services, but recognizes that some patients prefer to receive women’s health services through female providers or gynecologists. In these cases, Dr. Sherman and the gynecologist typically share records to ensure the best possible care is provided.
How do I pay for specialist referrals or hospitalization?
We recommend carrying health insurance for services outside the scope of our practice, including services through specialist offices and hospitals.
How do I pay for labs, imaging, and other diagnostic services not covered by the membership?
The cost of labs will be disclosed to you before we collect them. Labs are provided at a heavily discounted rate that is generally significantly cheaper than if submitted to insurance. If you are agreeable to the cost, we will charge your preferred payment method at the time of service. However, we are able to submit lab expenses through insurance upon request.
For imaging and other diagnostic services, we secure reduced out-of-pocket rates with local services. Prices are disclosed to you before receiving the service. If desired, charges can be submitted through insurance upon request.

What happens if I am admitted to the hospital?
In the hospital, you receive care from a hospital physician who communicates with Dr. Sherman about the care you receive while admitted. When you are discharged, Dr. Sherman will continue your care.
How do I pay for medications?
The same way you would at any other clinic. Dr. Sherman sends the prescription to your preferred pharmacy, and you can pay with your insurance or other preferred payment method. For some medications, there may be discounted out-of-pocket services to obtain the medication at a reduced price.
Do you require vaccines?
We respect the autonomy of individuals and families, and do not require vaccination to be a member. We stay up-to-date with research and guidelines to provide patients with the best recommendations for their health, but we do not dismiss patients or families for their decision to immunize or not.
Do you offer business membership rates?
Yes! If you are a business owner and are interested in DPC services for your patients, please visit our "For Businesses" page for business rates and information.
You advertise 24/7 access to Dr. Sherman by phone or email. Does this mean I can have my medical concerns addressed in the middle of the night or weekend?
Yes. One advantage of our practice is 24/7 access to Dr. Sherman via his personal cell phone number and email address. However, we ask that patients be mindful that Dr. Sherman is the only doctor on call for his patients. If you call outside of business hours, Dr. Sherman is likely spending time with his family or resting to ensure he can provide the best possible care on the following day. Because of this, we ask the following:
- Please reserve after-hours texts and calls for urgent matters only.
- For emergencies, please call 911 and/or go to the emergency department because emergencies cannot be handled over the phone.
- For non-urgent concerns, please email Dr. Sherman at any time or call the clinic during business hours. Emails will be answered within the following 1-2 business days.
